A warm front came to St. Louis yesterday, so we threw open all the windows and turned off the heat. When we got back from dinner last night, the inside of the house was nearly 80 degrees. Spring is almost here!

OK, so technically it wasn’t a weekend for this weekend experiment, but after reading a few articles on water droplet photography, I couldn’t wait to try the techniques myself. I shot a lot (a lot) of images with both lenses, but one of the first ones turned out to be the best.

This was my setup:

overturned metal mixing bowl in the sink
water on the flat part of the bottom of the bowl
a slow drip of water from the faucet
camera with 70-300mm lens on tripod
on-camera flash up, with Kleenex® tissue diffuser (nice, I know)
lots and lots and lots of frames shot with varying angles, shutter speeds and timing with the drips
